Cornwall is famous for the beautiful beaches that become a haven for tourists every summer. But it pays to go beyond the coastal amenities to enjoy the peace and serenity of a woodland walk.
Along the Camel Trail is a stunning example of Cornwall’s woodland wonders. Bishops Wood is an endless source of discovery, where seasonal flowers whisper stories of fairies and tall tree canopies invite you to feel the majesty of nature.
Bikes, walkers and dogs are all welcome on this part of the Camel Trail, so it’s best if you can keep an ear out for the ping of bikes to avoid surprises. When it’s warm, make sure to bring sunscreen and a sunhat as a minimum! We wouldn’t recommend this trail on baking hot days. The trail opens out once you get past the shade of the tree canopies, leaving you in direct sunlight for a while.
Parking is limited but worthwhile as it is usually free of charge. While there are no toilet facilities, a handful of picnic tables laze by the River Camel for the hungry traveller. The rustle of leaves on the breeze and the twinkle of water serves as the perfect backdrop to cheese and pickle sandwiches shared out amongst friends and family.
