One of our favourite walks through the Lanhydrock Estate takes us across the mediaeval bridge at Respryn. This walk along the River Fowey quickly reaches a wooden foot bridge on the left-hand side, which leads into the picturesque Higginsmoor Wood.
Whichever path you choose to follow from here, there is plenty to please the eye as you meander along riverside paths that gently weave a passage through this ancient woodland. Benches have been thoughtfully provided for visitors to take a moment or two to soak up the scenery. Springtime brings a stunning display of bluebells and blossoming magnolias. The canopy of trees provides a natural shelter from which to enjoy the breathtaking vista which often feels as if you have fallen upon a serendipitous discovery.
Whether you’re out for an afternoon stroll or taking a picnic lunch to make the most of the day, the fresh air and spectacular surroundings lift the soul and feed the imagination.
This is one of many walks that can be enjoyed at Lanhydrock House and gardens, which is owned and managed by the National Trust. A perfect attraction for families, dog walkers and cyclists.
For this particular trail, we use the Respryn Woods car park which offers free entry for National Trust members and Blue Badge holders, but charges apply for all other visitors. Parkland access is free for everyone.
Toilet facilities can be found opposite the Park Café and in the Stables courtyard adjacent to the House.
