Famous for its rich history and harsh Victorian punishments, Bodmin Jail has recently undergone extensive restoration alongside its adjoining hotel, making it a popular tourist attraction.
This 18th century former prison offers award-winning tours and immersive experiences and is known as one of Britain’s most haunted locations.
On our visit before the most recent phase of restoration, we decided to explore at our own pace instead of taking a tour. Climbing the narrow staircases, hearing the echoing voices of other visitors and making our way through the cold, stone walled corridors felt like we were stepping through time and seeing history come to life. There were plenty of information boards to be found along the way, detailing points of historic interest.
There are ample facilities including a café, a gift shop and toilets. In addition to the range of paranormal experiences available to book, the venue offers a range of events throughout the year. We have yet to stay at the hotel or try one of Bodmin Jail’s Ghost Experiences.
There is plenty of parking nearby. We used a pay-and-display car park a short distance away.
