Situated approximately a mile from Penzance on the Penzance-Madron-Morvah road are the historic remains of the Madron Holy Well. From the moment you step foot onto this ancient land, you know you’ve discovered something special.
Surrounded by lush green trees and an eclectic mix of wild foliage, this hidden gem is shrouded in mystery.
Following the well-trodden path, it’s not long before you come across the first trees to be decorated in colourful ribbons and scraps of fabric known as clouties. It is said to bring you luck if you make a wish as you tie a cloutie to one of the trees.
The Holy Well is located further along and is well worth the effort. Its beautiful stonework and peaceful mood invite a moment of solitude that soothes the soul.
Depending on what time of year you visit, the ground can be very wet and boggy. We would recommend wearing sturdy, waterproof footwear on your visit.
Further along from the Well, there is more scenery to explore including a tunnel of trees that seem to sing as the wind dances through their branches.
